UNC’s Place

On one of my family excursions, we passed an abandoned house on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, not far from Ocean City. A half mile down the road, I turned back. Couldn’t resist.

I walked around for awhile looking for beauty or intrigue in a house way beyond its years.

After awhile, I noticed my younger son, Nick, shooting photos inside the dwelling. I followed him in and found a sign of recent “ownership.”

On the way out, I paused to shoot UNC’s garden:

Clever title to this beautiful photo,”Diamonds In the Rough”, John. Always loved weathered barns, houses and such. For me, “hope” is found in the old wood sliding towards oblivion, contrasted against the rebirth and regeneration of life in the yellow blossoms on the vine. This is the kind of dark, half-shuttered window that makes one wonder what lies inside the room. Mystery all around . . . Jack

Nature’s gentle but inexorable return to Herself in the house wreathed in splendor.
Gaia is fortunate indeed to have an archivist like John.

Thank you, John for your artist’s eye!
